May 17, 2008...St. Lawrence County...Bush Farms in Richville, NY...brown tourmaline, tremolite. No facilities. Meet at Silver Leaf Diner, Rt. 11 at 8am if interested in attending.

 

May 24- 26, 2008.  North Shore Rock and Mineral Club.  Hickory Hill, Fonda New York.  Herkimer "Diamonds".  Facilities & Camping/RV's.  Tools- from hard rock mining- dolomitic limestone, heavy sledges and wedges to small raking and digging tools.  Parking next to site.  Contact Joe Grace at joergrace@msn.com

May 31, 2008...Boston Mineral Club...Morning to early afternoon:  Beryl Hill, Royalston, MA...for beryl and other simple pegmatite minerals.  Mid-afternoon to dusk: Shaft 10, Hardwick, MA for micro epidote, babingtonite, fluorite, apophyllite, etc. Contact Nate Martin at rocknate@gmail.com to register.

May 31, 2008.....Lapidary & Mineral Society of Central Connecticut.... Roxbury, CT....... Green’s Farm (Roxbury) Garnet Mine for almandine and staurolite crystals.  Pits are behind the yard of a private home, pay $2 at the house and please be on your best behavior!  Tons of garnets in schist and soil. Good place for kids, some steep terrain though.  Bring hammers, chisels, sifters, sturdy shoes and eye protection.  No facilities. May 31, 2008, 10 a.m........ Berks Mineralogical Society...........C&D Canal, Delaware for fossils...... start,  all day, open to 15 people.  Parking is abundant.  Please note.  This trip is tentatively proposed as a Memorial Day picnic for the BMS as well.  I welcome outside EFTA members to join us, but ask that food be brought to share, preferably one side dish and one two liter type drink.   Contact Dean Evans, at insect@ptd.net.  Registration is now open for any listed trip.  Registrations for any trip closes the Saturday before the planned trip.  No exceptions.

Oct. 11 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM and Oct. 12  7:00 AM – 12:00 PM........Walworth, NY Dolomite Products Quarry Open House for Mineral Collecting ....1200 Atlantic Ave., Walworth, NY (east of Rochester, NY)

Hard hats, steel toed shoes, eye protection are required. Gas saws and drills are allowed. Supervised children are permitted. Must sign in at garage.

Suggested time of arrival is 6:30AM as they have been known to let us in earlier than 7:00 AM.

Late arrivals are tolerated - Must sign in at garage.

New York State Thruway (Rte. 90) to Route 390 N to 590 N

·                     Exit onto and follow Browncroft Road (286) East (it becomes Atlantic)

·                     Pass Route 250.  Will see large blue water tower on Right at top of hill

·                     Turn Left at the water tower:  Quarry driveway is on the Right.

Expect to find minerals: Fluorite, calcite, dolomite, selenite, sphalerite, celestite.

October 11, 2008...Lapidary & Mineral Society of Central CT...CCC Quarry- Haddam, CT... Pegmatites with beryl, columbite, schorl.  Hours 8am-4pm...No facilities.  No need to contact club; map and details are at http://www.lmscc.org/CCCQuarry.htm  Note: Beaver Meadow Road is exit 8 off Route 9, not exit 7.

Oct. 11, 12, 13....Boston Mineral Club....Eureka and Columbia Mines, Marion, KY....Eureka Mine for lilac to dark purple fluorite in sharp cubes and complex step-face crystals plus associated galena, smithsonite & calcite crystals, Columbia Mine for fluorite, galena, sphalerite, smithsonite, hydrozincite and bright multi-colored fluorescent minerals, plus optional visit to Ben Clement Mineral Museum.  Contact Nate Martin at rocknate@gmail.com to register.

 

Oct. 11 & 12, 2008.....Wayne Co. Gem & Mineral Club.... Dolomite Quarry, Walworth, NY……for fluorite, sphalerite, calcite & quartz xls Sat. hours are 7AM – 2PM. Sun. hours are 7AM –Noon. No limit to # attending. Notify me 2 weeks in advance if possible so the quarry may be notified of our numbers. We've been invited to attend. If unable to give advance notice, come anyway. Gem & Mineral ...Newark, NY.  The Wheatons have moved into a single story apartment and the club has offered to help them dispose of their 30 year old rock and mineral collection, 100's or better yet 1000's of samples will be on sale, many for as little as a $1.00 a piece & $1.00/lb.  At Ken Rowe's - 580 Rte 88 S.  (2 miles south of Newark, NY) 9AM-6PM.
