2010 EASTERN Field Trip Alliance Field Trip Itinerary as of April 10, 2010 =========================================== How to Attend EFTA Field Trips All field trips on the EFTA update list are open to members of any of the EFTA clubs unless specified otherwise. To book a place on a trip a club member must make the request through the Trip Listing contact person. (This policy was approved by an almost unanimous vote of the EFTA Club member FT Coordinators in 2008.) The club member must follow all directions and deadline requirements in the Trip Listing, and they must have the specific permission of the Hosting Club prior to attending any EFTA trip. Hosting clubs retain all rights to limit or restrict trip attendance. See the Bi-Laws for more information, detailed on the EFTA Rules page. January 4, 5 & 6 (Mon. - Wed.) -- Diamond Hill Quartz Prospect, Antreville, Abbeville County, South Carolina. This is an excellent site to collect: Amethyst; skeletal, phantom & smoky quartz; encrustation pseudomorphs - quartz after calcite; cacoxenite; microminerals. Fee: $15/day/person; under 12 - $6/day; persons older than age 64 who surface collect only - $6/day. Release of Liability form must be signed. Probably the most famous collecting site in Georgia. Minerals that may be found: Kyanite, barite, jarosite, phosphosiderite, variscite, quartzite, quartz, rutile, ilmenite, pyrite, lazulite, pyrophyllite, hematite, geothite, limonite and sulfur. Commercial mine operations have been suspended. Group donation (approx. $15-20/person) to caretaker expected. Bring signed Release of Liability form with you. This mine was featured on the Travel Channel's "Cash & Treasures" show for it's excellent amethyst specimens with a "Georgia Blue Flash." Working mine - main pit is off limits & is roped off for safety. Collecting is allowed in the numerous dump sites. Over age 12 only. Must sign a Release of Liability Waiver Form upon arrival - parent/guardian must sign form for minors. Fee: $25/day/person.
